There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains a number of luxuries in addition to the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
