There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights a number of luxuries aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
