The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a gamble at the current time, so you may imagine that there might be little affinity for supporting Zimbabwe's gambling dens. In fact, it appears to be working the opposite way, with the awful market circumstances creating a bigger eagerness to play, to try and find a fast win, a way out of the difficulty.

For most of the people subsisting on the tiny local money, there are two dominant forms of gambling, the state lottery and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else in the world, there is a national lottery where the probabilities of succeeding are extremely tiny, but then the jackpots are also unbelievably big. It's been said by financial experts who look at the subject that many don't buy a card with the rational expectation of hitting. Zimbet is centered on one of the domestic or the British football leagues and involves predicting the outcomes of future matches.

Zimbabwe's casinos, on the other shoe, mollycoddle the incredibly rich of the nation and tourists. Until not long ago, there was a very substantial tourist business, founded on nature trips and visits to Victoria Falls. The market collapse and associated conflict have cut into this market.

Amongst Zimbabwe's gambling dens, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and slot machines, and the Plumtree Casino, which has just the slot machines. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has just slots. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, both of which contain gaming tables, one armed bandits and video machines, and Victoria Falls houses the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the pair of which have video poker machines and tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe's gambling dens and the aforementioned mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is very like a parimutuel betting system), there is a total of 2 horse racing complexes in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Seeing as that the market has shrunk by beyond 40% in the past few years and with the associated deprivation and bloodshed that has arisen, it isn't known how healthy the sightseeing business which is the backbone of Zimbabwe's gambling halls will do in the in the years to come. How many of them will carry through till things improve is basically not known.
