There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences on top of the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
